Last week’s blog comes to you a few days late this time round, due in no small part to it having been an especially busy one!
After an exciting end to the week prior, which I spent in London, it was hands straight back on the pumps here at Jak HQ on Monday morning. Plenty to be getting on with – as ever – and with the holiday season approaching, not nearly enough hours in the day to get it all done.
Our design team spent the week working on some great projects for an increasing number of local businesses. Our clientele has been spreading further and further afield this year, but I’m pleased to say that our business remains firmly grounded here in the North East.
There’s been stationery for a Chester-le-Street recycling company, lapel badges and lanyards for a Stockton-on-Tees secondary school, menus for a Darlington hotel, and much, much more. The variety of local business is a joy to work with!
We’ve also been working on a series of ‘New Home’ greetings cards for a nearby estate agency, but were in need of one ourselves as one third of our design team, Dan, received the keys to his first home! Good luck in your new home, Dan, and remember that a happy house is the best house.
Silly season has now well and truly begun for Full Colour Cards, and we celebrated our third Black Friday with a full week of crazy offers, including up to 50% off our Colorplan Business Cards. Love it or hate it, I reckon Black Friday is here to stay. There have been some super offers available both online and in-store, again demonstrating the power and global reach of USA traditions and digital business.
- Uber are now the world’s largest taxi company, yet don’t own a single cab.
- Airbnb is the largest accommodation provider, yet own no real estate .
- The largest phone companies, Skype and WeChat, own no cables.
- Alibaba is the world’s most valuable retailer, yet owns no stock.
- The worlds largest movie house, Netflix, owns no cinemas.
It goes to show that we might not be entering the digital revolution after all. In fact, it happened while we were sleeping.
Speaking of which…

Tomorrow night, my beloved Middlesbrough FC plays Everton in the semi-final of the Football League Cup. I will (of course) be there supporting the reds on what will hopefully be a successful night… though not just for the team. Our latest business venture, toonteams.com, launches the same night!
We’ve signed a joint venture with the MFC Foundation, and for every caricature ordered, we will be donating 10% of the profit back to the community. This will be invested in health, education, social inclusion and sport participation. I’d like to extend my thanks to the team at the foundation, and also to MFC, for making this happen, and I trust it will be a successful partnership.
Right then! Back to work…
Anything is possible,
