When Is The Right Time For Your Website To Get A Redesign?

Getting your website redesigned, like having your corporate premises refurbished, can take a lot of time; for that reason, you could be excused for lacking the appetite to do it very often. Before going ahead with a site redesign, you want to be confident that the time is right for it. So, how can you actually tell when the right time has arrived? Admittedly, it’s not entirely easy to do so…

Why might your site’s design need to be modified?

When was your website last redesigned? Maybe it was several years ago, and there are several tell-tale signs that it was. To cite one example, if it’s still got a link to your company’s Google+ page, you should probably finally acknowledge that this fad has passed.

However, some of the indicators might not be as obvious. You may not remember that the site was originally designed to help sell strictly phones when you have since branched out into selling tablets and computers as well. Alternatively, maybe the site looks fine on the laptop that you regularly view it on, but not so good on the smartphone that you rarely use for viewing websites but many of your potential customers could. How have their requirements changed since the previous redesign?

Should you make a sweeping overhaul or incremental changes?

People who buy a new phone know all about “incremental changes” – those minor tweaks which can appreciably improve the experience while largely leaving what has long made it fundamentally great. You could apply the same careful approach to making your website better.

Maybe you could just change the font used throughout your site, drop a few shadows, or replace those stock images that, it seems, more of your competitors have started using as well. Such minor changes are unlikely to seriously irritate those website users who don’t tend to like change; however, if your site has more deep-rooted problems, more significant changes could be in order.

Does your site use a rigid template that doesn’t look consistently good across various displays, from the iPhone SE’s small screen right through to that huge monitor attached to your desktop PC? If so, you could invest in a responsive design. Alternatively, maybe your site needs a visual transformation to bring it into line with a recent rebranding of the company itself. Scenarios like these will call for a root-and-branch redesigning… but you don’t need to complete that whole job yourself.

That’s because, here at JAK Inc, we have web design wizards who can work alongside you to help make that dream redesign a reality.
